Wedding Photographer Northamptonshire: How to choose your wedding flowers BY MISS VICTORIA

Recently I’ve had a number of bride-to-bes ask about wedding flowers. There’s so much to choose from where do you even start!

At one of my beautiful, rustic Northamptonshire weddings, I met Miss Victoria from Miss Victorias Floral Emporium. I was blown away not just by her creative style, but also her love and passion for for her job. She took such pride and care over every little detail, making sure everything looked just perfect! I was thrilled when she agreed to be a guest writer on Ferri Photography’s blog. What a special treat!

Don’t forget to head over to her Facebook page here and show her a bit of love. Although she’s based in London she covers Northampton too!

Enjoy!

Now, in my mind a wedding just wouldn’t be the same without flowers.  I am aware that I am completely biased when I say this, but really, it’s true!  Just ask the Greeks, to wear garlands in your hair (better known as Caesar’s laurels) was considered to be a gift from nature on your wedding day.  In English tradition, the Bride would be led down the isle by a small girl sprinkling blossoms in her path to assure a long life and happiness.  What could be more appropriate for your wedding day?

Now, the blooms you choose to surround yourself with on your wedding day should completely suit your style and personality as a couple.  They should also complement the overall look of the rest of your wedding.  Here are a few things I suggest to help you pick your wedding flowers:

– Where to start

If you really have no idea about flowers or where to start in the selection process then I have a little secret – Pinterest is a wonderful thing!  You can search for your wedding colour scheme and start collecting images of flowers and arrangements you like from there.  I do think it’s still worth buying the odd magazine or taking a trip to Columbia Road flower market – you might stumble across something you never thought of before.

– Colours and styling

Vintage colour schemes are very en vogue at the moment, if this is the look you’re going for then try to pick a moment in time to focus on, in the past I have worked with brides who were inspired by Frida Kahlo or the Art Deco movement so we chose flowers that would reflect this.  I loved creating Josy and Marc’s wedding flowers (pictured) as they reminded me of the antique Wedgewood blue and white china that my Grandma used to whip out for Sunday Roast.

–  Budget

Arrange a consultation with a couple of florists.  This initial meeting should be free of charge, you will know straight away if a florist is right for you.  They must share your vision, you need them to be as excited about your wedding flowers as you are!  Before you meet your florist seriously consider the budget that you have set aside for flowers and don’t beat around the bush, your florist can get to work early on with ideas to suit what you can afford and it will save wasting time further down the line.  Choosing seasonal blooms will certainly help with the cost, not only this but each season you will see and smell those flowers which will remind you of your happy day year after year.  I’m afraid if you want Hydrangeas in March you are going to pay double the price.

So what are you waiting for?  Go ahead and book your florist consultation and walk in with your head held high knowing you’ve planned for it well.  Remember; inspiration – styling – budget.  You’re all set!
