Personal Post | Curated by Heart

Curated by Heart:  I don’t often post personal ‘stuff’ on my blog but this is going to change over the coming months. As well as sharing my beautiful weddings, I want to use this as a space to share my thoughts and ideas. You might not always agree with what I say, but that’s OK, I don’t expect you to or want you to even.  These are just my thoughts and opinions. They relate to my own personal experiences. There is more than one way and there is no right or wrong way. The world is a big place and we don’t all need to do things the same way so go easy on me 😉

Earlier this month I attended a workshop entitled Curated by Heart by the rather very wonderful Kate Cullen. When I met Kate I instantly felt like we’d been friends for years. I’m not sure if that was down to her warm, kind nature or the fact that we’ve been following each other via social media for years, but we naturally fell into comfortable conversation.  It was such an inspiration to see how passionate she is about all aspects of her work. She made us all feel so incredibly welcome and it was clear to see that she had put a lot of time and effort behind the scenes to make sure that each and every one of us felt valued and heard on the day.  Kate is one of the most giving and inspirational people I know. Through the workshop she gave us the space to follow our own unique visions, intervening to guide but not influence us.

The workshop was held at The Cotswold Wedding Studio. Surrounded by all that Cotswold beauty, fresh air and nature (plus no 4G!) meant that you really felt you’d escaped from the world. There was no distraction. Just time to spend on ourselves. Exploring our thoughts and being free to create our own authentic stories.

I got so much more out of the workshop than I was expecting or had hoped for. I left with a real sense of purpose and direction. My creative passion flame reignited and I was so excited to see where my next chapter would take me.  I hadn’t realized how caught up I’d become with all the ‘noise’ that surrounds running your own business and how much I needed to feel Inspired, reconnect with what I love.

It’s easy to lose sight or direction. Social media is great for inspiration but can be a real authenticity killer at times too! The workshop made me question whether I was following the direction that really represents and resonates with me. Kate made us turn social media off, to look within and be inspired and influenced by nature and items that spoke to us emotionally.

Not only did Curated by Heart allow me to walk away with some great tools to use in creating my next styled shoot,  it also reminded me of why I fell in love with photography, what feeds my heart and most importantly,  not to be influenced by the world of social media.

Want to know more? Coco Lane recently published a post here about the workshop.

PS Kate’s mum is a demon baker. I had to resist the temptation of having two of everything.

 Much Love
