Sometimes it’s true what they say ‘the best things DO come in small packages’. Do you know how I know?
In my 8 years as a wedding photographer I’ve photographed weddings in different countries, at different venues and in all sorts of weathers; some big, some small and some HUGE! I’ve even photographed elopements were it has just been my lovely couple and me, on a plane, running away to another country to tie the knot! There’s no right or wrong way to get married. Big can be beautiful but small can also be something rather special too.
There’s a different feel to smaller wedding. Maybe it’s because the guests that have ‘made the cut’ are the ones that you honestly, truly couldn’t have got married without; because they are your nearest and dearest; the ones you love the most and the ones that love you both back in equal measure. I can guarantee more happy tears at small weddings than any other, even though there are less people. I can guarantee more emotion and bigger connections between people.
Even if some of your guests didn’t know each other before the big day you can bet your bottom dollar that they’ll all be leaving at the end of the evening as friends and as part of your wider family. Many would have exchanged phone numbers, Instagram handles and maybe already put a dinner date in the diary! It’s these same people who will travel through life with you as a married couple.
Small weddings don’t have to be understated, they can still be ‘grand’ – grand on venue, grand on décor, grand on entertainment, grand on food and drink . The most important thing is however, is that they’re grand on love. Because big or small wedding, what’s left after the confetti’s been thrown, the last glass of the champagne has been drunk and the last dance has been danced is the two of you .
